Questions and Answers

I would like to answer a few questions regarding guitar building here. If you would like to know more or have a specific inquiry, simply use the contact form on this page.

I buy my wood exclusively from experienced and reputable tonewood dealers. Fortunately, my main supplier is only a few kilometers away, so I can choose the right wood on-site.

DThis varies greatly and depends on many factors. Generally, I work on one to two guitars at the same time. However, I also prepare some parts (like necks) in advance and keep them as semi-finished components in my workshop, which I then adapt to a specific guitar.

The finishing also has a significant impact on the construction time, as drying plays a crucial role. Overall, it can be said that building a handmade guitar requires time and patience, as the goal is to create an instrument that will be a good companion for a long time.

It all started with the book ‘I Build My Own Guitar,’ which I discovered and borrowed as a teenager from the city library. That’s when I began building my first steel-string guitar. Even before that, I had a strong interest in working with wood and instrument making. I grew up in a neighboring village to Bubenreuth, the place where the famous Beatles bass was built and where there have always been and still are many violin and guitar makers.

This cannot be answered with a blanket statement, as the material used for each guitar can vary greatly. There is, of course, a price difference depending on whether I use exotic and rare woods or a standard wood that is available in large quantities. However, it is clear that a handcrafted guitar cannot be obtained at the price of a factory-made guitar. But you will have a guitar that is truly one of a kind and can become a great companion for many, many years.
